KOTA BARU: The decision by former Parti Keadilan Rakyat Youth chief Mohamad Ezam Mohd Nor to rejoin Umno has received top marks from Umno supreme council member Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.
"He can be an example to others and at the same time, help attract more younger people to the party."For me, not only Mohamad Ezam can join Umno, but everyone with good knowledge and experience. "They can contribute to the party as well as the country," he said after launching Kelantan Tomoi Association at Kampung Kedai Buluh here, yesterday.Tengku Razaleigh said it was important for Umno to have such an experienced person to help the party regain the public's trust.
Mohamad Ezam, who was expelled from Umno in 1998 for his criticism of the party leadership under Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, applied to rejoin Umno on Wednesday. Tengku Razaleigh, who is also Gua Musang MP, said he would stand by his decision to contest the Umno presidency at the party's general assembly in December.
"I am willing to contest because I want to contribute to the party and the country," he added. He held a meeting with 46 of the 102 Pengkalan Chepa Umno branch chiefs and briefed them on current issues and problems facing the party.
